Capitals Eliminated from Championship Contention

Corey's hockey team lost their first two round-robin playoff games this week, and were eliminated from reaching the championship game. Their final game of the season is Friday night vs. the Lightning. They were defeated by the Flyers, 4-2, on Tuesday night (a team they beat 11-3 in the regular-season finale). The Capitals gave up two goals on the first three shots, one of which was an unfortunate deflection off of a defense's stick. Corey saved 13 of the next 15 shots, and the Capitals scored two goals, but ultimately lost.

Last night, Corey and the Capitals had their best game of the year. Facing our friends on the Penguins, a team that has lost just THREE TIMES all year, Corey actually had a shutout for 2+ periods. He saved the first 19 shots he faced, but in the end the Penguins were too tough, winning 3-1. Corey finished with 22 saves on 25 shots. After the first two goals against the Flyers, Corey saved an amazing 35 of 40 shots (for a save percentage of .875). His goals-against average for the playoffs in two games is 3.50. For comparison's sake, the other teams' GAA are 3.00 for Penguins, 5.50 for Flyers, and 9.00 for the Lightning.

I'll do more of a season wrap-up after the final game, but was feeling nostalgic, so here is a video of Corey's FIRST hockey skating lesson on Sept. 5, 2007 (note, he was wearing shorts because I was told the first lesson would be off the ice):
